A lot of the conversation has been about DeMarcus Cousins a.k.a Boogie being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. I ask myself, if a guy is so good, why would a struggling franchise trade their so called franchise player? I’ll tell you why. You may be a very talented player, but if you have bad energy, you will be dealt. It’s as simple as that. The owner of the Sacramento Kings, Vivek Ranadive, truly believes in positive energy has a strong impact on success. Do I think the trade was a bad decision? Not even 1%. Am I a Demarcus Cousins hater? Absolutely not, but his attitude sucks. He is a chemistry killer, much like Dwight Howard. How are things working out for Dwight?
No matter how talented a player is, you have to play together as a team. My 5 year old son says “Dad, Teamwork makes the Dream work”. I know it’s a bit corny, but it’s the truth. Jordan, Wade, Kobe, Larry, Magic, and Shaq all learned this. I could go on and on about guys that checked their ego at the door and were without question team players. What makes a struggling franchise’s decision to pull the trigger on the trade even easier?
It’s when you have another University of Kentucky star waiting in the shadows named Willie Cauley-Stein. Say good bye to his $3,800 FanDuel value the night before last. You will never see it again, unless he hangs on late into his career like a Vince Carter. So what were the immediate results of the trade?
Both Boogie (68 Fpts.) and Willie (40 Fpts.) had great nights. However the result was the Kings won against a decent Denver Nuggets squad and the Pelicans got taken back to the woodshed, if you know what I mean. Just look at Jrue Holiday’s numbers. Jrue’s numbers will be cannibalized by Boogie Anthony Davis going forward, unless they learn how to play together as a team. It’s all about chemistry and team play, influenced by great talent that wins games and championships over the long term. Just look at the San Antonio Spurs. They are a prime example of what a team and franchise should stand for. The take away is that the Sacramento Kings are a better TEAM and much better off without DeMarcus Cousins.
